To some degree, you're right - Windows Media Center can do much of this already... and with a Media Center Extender, you can wirelessly stream music, photos and video from your computer to your TV. I haven't had the opportunity to test one, but from what I've read the system isn't particularly good.

However, the real point is that what Apple's doing with iTV is fundamentally different than what MS is doing with their Media Center. MS has essentially developed a glorified DVR that requires traditional cable, while Apple is looking to leverage the internet and provide the content itself.

At least that's my guess. We'll see how this plays out at Mac World in January.

After i posted this comment i went on a bit of a research freak out and i retract the question. Bloody hell Microsoft will never learn. Just another reason to love Apple even more.

Sound like you need to be a serious technophile to even consider this option. I hate to say this (as i'm very Mac loyal) but won't the new Windows operating system (when launched) on a media center be able to handle or fix these issues? Egad, i can't believe i just said that, but the question stands.

Thanks Scott. I'll be posting a follow up article once I've let everything settle a bit.

Oh, and I finally got the remote working... I think I may actually write a detailed review of the TC30, because it could very well be the very best AND very worst universal remote ever made. But I think I'll save that for another day.
